Comfort Socks Newsletter - April 2012 - Socks for the Homeless

Before we go any further, please take a few minutes to look at the fresh new look of our website. Thank you, Joe (www.tese.com/photography) for the time you give unselfishly to our cause.

She how happy Susie is being a Comfort Box? Thank You, Susie, you are so beautiful. If you interested in becoming a Comfort Box in your state, please email:info@comfortsocks.org

Welcome New Sock Recipient

Why are we so excited to welcome The Source of Vero Beach FL? Because they do such an awesome job in helping the homeless, and because Susie – our first Comfort Box representative did an awesome job too collecting socks and will be delivering them to the Source very soon. http://www.iamthesource.org

A Great Big Thank You to our Sock Collectors

Curtis Brown of Dallas, Texas used our mission to help others and got some community service credits too. That’s perfectly ok – Comfort Socks is happy to endorse your community service sock drive project. Come on, show us what you can do.

A little over a year ago, we welcomed Team Jayden to the Comfort Socks family. Jayden has Cerebral Palsy but that does not stop Jayden's determined spirit to participate in sports. Everytime I hear from Team Jayden, I am truly inspired. This year, team Jayden has once again shared their blessings with us - the email started with "Socks are on the way.." and included this about Jayden and his recent one mile run.

"Having cerebral palsy and being legally blind will not stop him from crossing the finish line and helping others!” Thank You, Team Jayden, for the inspiration you have given us (and of course, the socks that will bless so many)

A Word from Our Founder

Comfort Socks has always been a mission of faith, in that every pair of socks we give to homeless shelters or the homeless programs we sponsor, we just believe that the sock recipient is going to receive the comfort we long to provide. We do not need to see the fruits of our labors to know we are effective.

The other side of our faith, is in you, our supporters, that you will respond to the prompting of your heart and step forward to help us. Just the other day, a homeless ministry requested socks. They were ‘bone dry’ they said. Although their need was greater than the socks we have in our inventory, I told them, Yes, you can count on us.

But I want to talk honestly to you. I want you to understand that now is a time like no other, a chance for you, the Comfort Socks family, to really come forward and help us be a place where will not have to even consider asking a homeless shelter to wait for socks. The homeless have waited long enough; many have waited months between sock changes. Can you remember what you were doing a few months ago? A few months ago it was New Years Day, Presidents Day, or Valentines Day. Well, some homeless are still wearing the same pair of socks from that time till now. Even wearing the same pair of socks for one week is not a welcome thought. So if this realization does not sit right with you, we are so glad – because we want you to walk our road with us, but this time, a little deeper.

Yes, we want to challenge you a bit. We want you to search yourself and ask “Am I really a part of the Comfort Socks family?” Is using my mouse to ‘like’ a Comfort Socks post enough? Is that the extent of my support? To help you answer these questions, we have started what we call the Facebook Challenge (ssshhh - you do not have to be a member of facebook to participate)

It’s really very simple – choose a puzzle piece – and see where you fit in the Comfort Socks puzzle. We don’t expect something for nothing, so for each piece you provide to us, we will enter your name in a drawing to win a high quality print of your choice (up to 11x14) from Joe Tese Photography (www.tese.com/photography). This challenge will run for the months of May and June. Just email me the details (info@comfortsocks.org). We will draw the name of the lucky winner on June 30, 2012.

Piece # 1 = Share our facebook page (facebook.com/comfortsocks) on at least 10 of your friends or families facebook pages (1 entry)

Piece # 2 = Get 10 of your friends to go to our Facebook Page and LIKE our page (2 entries)

Piece # 3 = Collect or purchase @ least 30 pairs of new mens crew length socks (3 entries)

Piece # 4 = Organize a school, church, womens or mens club, and do a sock drive (4 entries). Remember New Mens Crew Length (the more comfortable the better :))

Piece # 5 = Donate funds –for every $10.00 donated you will receive one entry (ex: a $20.00 donation gives you 2 entries, $30.00 donation gives you three entries, and so on). Donations can be made online - http://comfortsocksonline.org/dontoday.php remember to specify 'Facebook Challenge' or 'Puzzle Piece' in the memo.

Piece # 6 = Donate $50.00 and receive an extra entry (6 entries for $50.00)

Your support means so much. Encouragement comes in the form of phone calls, Facebook interaction, donations of resources and socks. Please know that we are sincerely grateful for your attentiveness to the needs of others, and that you have chosen Comfort Socks as a way to express your desire to help.

God Bless You,
Theresa Tese - Comfort Socks Founder
