New Socks for the Homeless

Talk About Inspiration....

Comfort Socks was honored to speak to a group of homeless men and women last Sunday (September 30th). In the past, we have been invited to share our mission at churches, schools, business, and other non-profit orgs to raise awareness of the need for socks by a homeless person. But now, for the first time, we had the chance to speak directly to those who receive the socks lovingly donated by the Comfort Socks family of supporters. This was an extremely precious event to us. To be able to give the warmth of new socks, a symbol of your love and care for those you have never met, blessed us in a very deep and personal way too.

Thank you to all who contribute to our cause, and to those of you not yet a part of our great work, well, come on - we welcome you to join us, so we can give the comfort of new socks to the homeless of America.

Sock Stuff

Did you know the modern English word sock is derived from the Old English word socc, meaning "light slipper"?

Keep em Coming....

Boy, was it hot in the warehouse over labor day weekend and we don't mind a bit because our labor of love prepared socks to be on their way to
Massachusetts and Virginia. Our slight discomfort is nothing compared to the hardships the homeless face everyday - Connecting those in need with the kindness of your sock donations is what we are all about. Keep em coming, Comfort Socks family, and we will keep em going out.

Change Your Words, Change the World

Take a minute, please and watch this - it will inpsire you...

Thank you, Sock Collectors

Comfort Socks has just received the last batch of socks collected by the ongoing SBI Rotary to benefit supporting our mission. Special thanks to Ed Hartnett for his contribution of over 500 pairs of socks, bringing the total  to 604 pairs. Thank you, SBI Rotary Club - we are proud to be part of the good work you do.

A Very Very Special thank you to the Ladies Auxilary of the Calabash ELKS lodge. Deb O (Pres) and very special Peg H - (who has a tremendous heart for the homeless) really came through big time for us this month. We used the socks donated by the Ladies Auxilary to give to the homeless we had the pleasure to address (see first story). The socks donated were so warm and soft, had anti-bacterial agents in them, in short, the ultimate sock to give for someone in a homeless situation. I just cannot express it...Thank you just doesn't seem like enough.

Thank You, MattressFIRM for finding another way to comfort others. Comfort Socks is so happy you have heard our call.

Thank You Contributors - for your Faithfulness

Let us not forget why we are here. For every smile you see, there are many more people who do not have a smile to share. Contrary to the common view one might have of a homeless person, many found in shelters today are there because there simply is not steady work. Able and willing to work, searching every day, they move from city to city hoping something will open up. We appreciate your help so much but those you have helped by your support are grateful in a way they cannot express. We have the honor to thank you for them.

Your support of Comfort Socks has allowed us to receive 39,757 pairs of socks so far.  We are so grateful to all our supporters. First: We wish Comfort and Compassion are known by our actions and to all sock recipients.  Second: We pray for Blessings for our supporters, sock recipients, and those without a home. Third: Please stay mindful of us and remember us monthly, if you can. Special Thanks to New Life Christian Fellowship for allowing us the use of their facilities and for their prayers and support for our mission.

Do you own real estate may wish to donate to us? Did you know that under the new health care bill real estate transactions may be subject to a 3.8% sales tax after 2012? Now might be a good time to consider the tax benefits of donating property to a non-profit like Comfort Socks. If you have a piece of property that you are unable to sell or lease, a donation of that real estate to Comfort Socks would be of interest to us and may be of great benefit to you. Please contact me so we can discuss these opportunities.

Comfort Socks is a 501(c)3 public charity that collects and distributes new socks for homeless
